Former local sportswriter Rachel Nichols will take over as the studio host of NBA Countdown on ESPN. She replaces Michelle Beadle who has held the position since 2016. Nichols continues as the weekday studio host on The Jump.
Nichols, who once went by the name Rachel Alexander in South Florida, was first seen as a sports reporter for the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel from 1995 to 1996. She moved to the Washington Post and became a sportswriter from 1996 to 2004.
She landed at ESPN as a sports reporter and stayed there until the end of 2013. Nichols then joined Turner Sports as an NBA sideline reporter and college basketball sideline reporter in January 2014. She added hosting duties for a Friday night program called Upgraded with Rachel Nichols on CNN from September 2013 until October 2014. Nichols rejoined ESPN in December 2015 and began to host The Jump in February 2016.
