The Deerfield Beach Bucks got by the Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs 14-0 at The Furnace on Saturday. It was a two-quarter preseason contest held on Dr. Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale. Both Broward County schools are expected to contend for state titles this season.
Deerfield Beach made it 7-0 when quarterback Derohn King found wide receiver Xavier Restrepo on a short three-yard touchdown pass. The Bucks extended the score to 14-0 when quarterback Michael Pratt ran the ball in from three yards out.
Cardinal Gibbons, the defending FHSAA Class 5A champions, looked like they had a touchdown on a 12-yard run by quarterback Brody Palhegyi. It was however negated due to an illegal block penalty.
