The Palm Beach Gardens Gators pounded the John I. Leonard Lancers 50-3 on Thursday night in Greenacres. The game was supposed to be played on Friday, but it was moved to one day earlier due to Hurricane Dorian.
John I. Leonard(1-1) got the ball first to begin the contest. A bad snap over the head of punter went out of the end zone and gave the Gators a safety just over a minute in.
Palm Beach Gardens(2-0) scored on their first possession at the 9:20 mark of the first quarter. Wide receiver Myron Levy caught a 37-yard touchdown pass in the front right side of the end zone from quarterback Tyler Kolb.
The Lancers later got on the scoreboard at 3:53 and trailed 9-3. Chris Fervil was able to nail a 40-yard field goal. The Gators answered back as Rafael Vasquez returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a score 15 seconds later and they once again led by nine points. Defensive back Marcus Joseph would intercept a pass from John I. Leonard quarterback Jadiel Cruz late in the first.
In the second quarter, Palm Beach Gardens increased their margin. Kolb squeezed in through the line from one yard away at 10:04.
The Lancers again had a bad snap on the punt and the Gators took over at the Lancers 25-yard line. They made it 30-3 with 4:07 remaining in the second. Former Dwyer running back Ernest Blackshear broke several tackles on a run up the middle from 15 yards out.
The momentum continued with the Gators in the second half. Kolb fired a pass to the left hash marks and Joseph scored on a 34-yard touchdown play at 6:03 of the third quarter.
Early in the fourth quarter, backup quarterback Lynden Moss connected a 30-yard strike to Vasquez on the right sideline for a Gators 43-3 lead. Palm Beach Gardens running back Deon Lucien added a two-yard touchdown run with just over four minutes left in the fourth.
