The New York Mets completed a four-game sweep with a 7-2 win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday at Citi Field. The Mets have won six straight and 13 of their last 14 games. The Fish were winless in their six-game road trip with a 0-6 record.
New York(59-56) took the early lead in the first inning. Pete Alonso cracked a two-run homer to left field on a 2-0 pitch for his 37th home run of the year.
In the second inning, Miami(42-71)) cut it to 2-1. Lewis Brinson knocked in Garrett Cooper on a base hit into right-center field.
The Mets expanded the margin to 4-1 in the bottom of the third. Michael Conforto walloped a two-run home run on the first pitch over the right-field wall with Steven Matz aboard.
The Marlins stayed in the contest during the top of the sixth. Brian Anderson blasted a solo home run to left-center field on a 1-0 count.
Two home runs were compiled by New York in the seventh inning. Jeff McNeil hit a two-run shot to center field that brought in Aaron Altherr. Two batters later, Conforto nailed his second home run of the game and 25th of the season as he hit the ball to left-center field.
