The Los Angeles Dodgers powered by the Miami Marlins 15-1 at Marlins Park on Tuesday night. The Dodgers have the best record in the National League while the Marlins have the worst. Dodgers starting pitcher Dustin May picked up his first win in the majors.
Los Angeles(80-41) got up 1-0 during the top of the second in an unusual way. A.J. Pollock was able to score from third on a wild pitch.
The Dodgers expanded it to a four-run margin in the fourth inning on back-to-back blasts. Corey Seager belted a two-run homer to right field on 0-2 pitch with Pollock aboard. Will Smith followed with a solo home run to left on a full count.
Miami(44-74) responded in the bottom of the frame. Brian Anderson doubled off the left-field wall for Jon Berti to score.
In the sixth inning, Los Angeles compiled a couple of runs. Smith walloped his second home run of the game which was a two-run blast on a 2-2 pitch to left-center field.
The Marlins gave up four more runs in the top of the seventh. Max Muncy hit a ground-rule double to right-center field and Kyle Garlick scored. Justin Turner followed and crushed a two-run homer to left field on a 1-0 count for his 20th home run of the season to make it 9-1. Cody Bellinger came up next and bashed a towering home run to right-center field on a 1-2 pitch. It was the 39th homer of the year for him which tied a career-high he set during his rookie season in 2017.
Los Angeles added another tally in the eighth inning. Matt Beaty connected on a solo home run to right on a 1-1 count.
The rout continued for the Dodgers in the top of the ninth with a two-out rally. Beaty hit the ball to center and it went past a diving Lewis Brinson to the center-field wall for a triple. Kristopher Negron, Caleb Ferguson and Smith all scored on the play. Garlick later lined a base hit to left that brought in Beaty to give Los Angeles a 14-run gap.
