The Los Angeles Dodgers easily defeated the Miami Marlins 9-1 at Marlins Park on Wednesday night. Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw pitched seven innings, allowed two hits and struck out 10 batters. The Marlins have been outscored 24-2 in their last two games. Kershaw tied Sandy Koufax for fifth all-time in Dodgers franchise history with his 165th career win.
It was a fast start for the Dodgers in the opening frame. Justin Turner connected with a solo home run to center field on a 1-1 pitch. Two batters later, Corey Seager blasted a two-run homer to center on a 1-1 count with Cody Bellinger aboard.
They continued with a long-drive attack in the middle innings. Edwin Rios hit his first career home run in the fourth inning. He followed with his second homer of the contest during the sixth inning with Matt Beaty scoring in front of him.
Los Angeles(81-41) made it 7-0 in the top of the seventh. Seager drove in Bellinger with a single into left field.
The Dodgers expanded it to a nine-run margin in the eighth inning. Max Muncy doubled to right field for Rios and Kristopher Negron to cross the plate.
Miami(44-75) waited until the ninth inning to break the shutout and get on the scoreboard. Former Dodger Curtis Granderson lifted a solo home run on a 0-1 pitch off the upper-deck façade in right field.
