Marlins Lose To Blue Jays In Buffalo

The Miami Marlins played in the first Major League Baseball regular season game ever in Buffalo and were defeated by the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in 10 innings on Tuesday night. It was the Blue Jays home opener at Sahlen Field because they can not play home contests in Toronto due to the coronavirus guidelines by the Canadian government.
Miami(7-4), who have lost three straight games, got the first run of the contest in the second inning. Brian Anderson socked a solo home run to left field on a 3-2 pitch.
Toronto(6-8) bounced back in the bottom of the sixth with three runs. Bo Bichette smashed a three-run homer on a 1-2 count to left field. Danny Jansen and Cavan Biggio scored on front of him on the play.
The Blue Jays extended their lead in the following frame to 4-1. Biggio knocked in Randal Grichuk with a single into right field.
In the ninth inning, the Marlins were down to their final out. Francisco Cervelli tied it up 4-4 with a three-run homer on a 3-0 pitch to left-center field that had Jon Berti and Anderson cross the plate.
The Fish had their first opportunity with the new MLB rule to have a runner placed at second base to begin extra innings, however they did not generate anything. Toronto got the game-winning run with the bases loaded in the 10th inning. Travis Shaw was at the plate and singled to right field for pinch-runner Anthony Alford to score.
