Major League Roster Dropped To 28 Players

     Major League Baseball rosters were trimmed down to 28 players on Thursday. It has been agreed upon that number of players will remain at 28 for the rest of the 2020 regular season. 
     Baseball rosters during the regular season prior to 2020 was set at 25 players until September when they expanded for the final month. MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association had agreed prior to the 2020 campaign to have a 26-man roster prior to the coronavirus pandemic. It was changed to a 30-man roster with the launch of the delayed 2020 season.
     The Marlins had to cut their roster down to 28 players prior to their contest on Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles. They optioned pitchers Brian Moran and Josh D. Smith to their alternate trainining site.
