2022 FHSAA Football Title Recap

South Florida high school football teams ended up with four FHSAA state championships in 2022. It turned out to be the same amount the tri-county region won last year. The area captured seven state championships back in 2019 and five state titles in 2020.
The Florida High School Athletic Association went with a new designation of classification this year. The state title games were held in two different venues for the second straight season. Class 1M, Class 2S, Class 1S and Class 1R happened at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee during the first weekend. Class 4M, Class 3M, Class 2M, Class 4S and Class 3S was held on the following week at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. It was the second time at that stadium held the football finals.
Two Broward County high schools ended up winning state titles. St. Thomas Aquinas defeated Homestead 38-21 for the FHSAA Class 3M state championship. STA captured their state-record 14th state football title. The Raiders accomplished something new in school history as they won their fourth consecutive state championship. It was the seventh state title in nine seasons and 11th title in 16 years for the Raiders. St. Thomas Aquinas and Homestead played in the first state football championship game between a Broward County high school and a Dade County high school.
Chaminade-Madonna walloped Clearwater Central Catholic 49-14 for the FHSAA Class 1M state title. The Lions won their fifth state title in the last six seasons and their seventh overall in school history.
Dade County chalked up two state championships this year, an increase from one in 2021. Miami Central captured their fourth consecutive state title with a 38-31 victory over American Heritage in the Class 2M state championship game. The Rockets won their ninth state championship in school history. It was the second time ever that a Dade County team clashed with a Broward County team in a state football final.
Columbus edged Apopka 16-13 in overtime for the FHSAA Class 4M state championship. It was their second state title in school history. The Explorers defeated the same high school for their previous title in 2019.
