Devils Run By Panthers

     The Florida Panthers fell to the New Jersey Devils 4-2 at FLA Live Arena on Wednesday night. The Panthers will visit the New York Islanders on Friday night prior to the holiday break. The Devils snapped a six-game winless streak. 
     Florida(15-15-4) jumped up to 1-0 lead at the 4:45 mark of the first period. Nick Cousins and Ryan Lomberg both had shots from close range which were saved. Eric Staal took a wrist shot from the low slot by Mackenzie Blackwood for his third goal of the year. 
     New Jersey(22-9-2) tied it up 1-1 on the power play at 7:01. They won the faceoff in the left circle and Dougie Hamilton passed it from the left point. Jack Hughes cycled the puck to the right circle and Jesper Bratt snapped a shot past Sergei Bobrovsky for his 11th goal this season. 
     The Panthers made it 2-1 with 3:48 left in the second period. Sam Bennett carried the puck through the neutral zone and into the Devils zone. He stopped at the right point and centered it. Eetu Luostarinen released a snap shot from the high slot for his eighth goal of the campaign. Anton Lundell was credited with an assist on the play. 
     In the third period, the Devils evened it up 2-2 at 2:44. Hamilton intercepted a Brandon Montour pass at center ice and sent a lead pass. Bratt skated with the puck into the Florida zone on a 2-on-1 breakaway and fired a wrist shot from the right circle for his second tally of the contest and 12th goal of the season. 
     New Jersey got their first lead of the contest 3-2 with 9:50 remaining in the third. Michael McLeod brought the puck around the cage and passed out to the left point. Jonas Siegenthaler fired a shot from the top of the zone and Yegor Sharangovich redirected it in from the low slot for his ninth goal this season. Tomas Tatar added an empty-net goal with 39.1 seconds left in regulation.
