Chaminade-Madonna Wins 1M State Title

     The Chaminade-Madonna Lions routed the Clearwater Central Catholic Marauders 49-14 in the FHSAA Class 1M state championship game at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee. The Lions won their fifth state title in the last six years and their seventh overall in school history. They also extended their winning streak to 24 games. 
     Chaminade-Madonna(13-0), who made their seventh consecutive state finals appearance, got out to a 7-0 in the first minute of the contest. Quarterback Cedrick Bailey connected a five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Joshisa Trader. 
     The Lions made it 14-0 with four minutes left in the first quarter. Running back Davion Gause carried the ball from 25 yards away for the score. 
     It became 21-0 for Chaminade-Madonna two minutes into the second quarter. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Bailey. 
     The Lions extended it to 28-0 with two minutes remaining in the second. Bailey found Smith again and threw a 21-yard pass to him. 
     Clearwater Central Catholic(12-2) got on the scoreboard four minutes into the second half and trailed 28-7. Running back Lenwood Sapp was able to plunge in from one yard out. 
     Chaminade-Madonna answered back just two minutes later at the midway point of the second quarter. Gause rushed the ball in from nine yards out for his second touchdown of the game to give them a 28-point margin.
     In the fourth quarter, the Lions kept piling on the points. Wide receiver Duane Thomas Jr. reached the end zone on a 12-yard run with nine minutes remaining. The Marauders responded with a five-yard touchdown run by Sapp with four minutes left in the fourth. Chaminade-Madonna capped the contest with under a minute to go when running back Bryant Junius busted in on a two-yard touchdown.
