Islanders Pass By Panthers

     The New York Islanders defeated the Florida Panthers 5-1 at UBS Arena on Friday night. The Panthers, who lost their third straight contest, will enter the holiday break and then play at home on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens. 
     Florida(15-16-4) raced out to a 1-0 lead at the 8:09 mark of the first period. Brandon Montour took a wrist shot from above the left circle which Ilya Sorokin saved. Matthew Tkachuk collected his 15th goal of the season as he tapped it in from the right of the crease. 
     New York(19-14-2) made it 1-1 at 5:20 of the second period. Brock Nelson got the edge on the left-circle faceoff. Noah Dobson fired a slap shot from the left point which hit Marc Staal in the left circle. Anthony Beauvillier snapped a shot from the slot area for his seventh goal this year. 
     The Islanders moved ahead 2-1 with 44.1 seconds left in the second. Jean-Gabriel Pageau won the faceoff in the right circle. Ryan Pulock took the puck from the right point to the right wing and released a wrist shot by Sergei Bobrovsky for his second tally of the campaign. 
     In the third period, New York expanded their lead to 3-1 at the 7:10 mark. Beauvillier dumped it into the right corner. Anders Lee centered it and Aatu Raty scored on a wrist shot from the slot for his first career goal in his first NHL game.
     The Isles picked up a three-goal margin just 71 seconds later. Alexander Romanov advanced the puck from the neutral zone. Zach Parise skated through the left circle and put in a backhand shot for 11th goal this season. 
     The Cats pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with over five minutes to go. Beauvillier scored from the Panthers blue line for his second goal of the game and eighth goal of the season with 4:10 left in the third.
