Islanders Overcome Panthers In Game 2

The New York Islanders came back on the Florida Panthers 4-2 at Scotiabank Arena in Game 2 of the best-of-five Stanley Cup Qualifier Series on Tuesday. The Panthers look to avoid a sweep by the Islanders in Toronto on Wednesday in Game 3.
Florida took a 1-0 lead with 8:44 left in the first period. Mike Hoffman backhanded the puck around the end wall from the right corner to Jonathan Huberdeau in the left corner. He returned it back to Hoffman in the top slot and he followed with a snap shot past Semyon Varlamov for the goal.
In the second period, New York evened it up 1-1 at the 6:12 mark. Tom Kuhnhackl pounced on the loose puck in the low right circle and carried it to the crease area. He dropped it to Matt Martin who one-timed a forehand shot by Sergei Bobrovsky. It was Martin's second career playoff goal in 40 games.
The Panthers reclaimed the lead 2-1 on the power play at 7:54. Hoffman squared a pass from the right point to Keith Yandle on top of the zone. His angled pass went to Aleksander Barkov and he snapped a shot from the top left circle.
The Islanders matched it with their own man advantage to tie it 2-2 with 6:12 left in the second. Devon Toews make a pass from the top of the zone and Ryan Pulock blasted a one-time slap shot from just above the left circle. Former Panther Derick Brassard was also credited with an assist on the play.
It became 3-2 for the Isles with 3:33 remaining for their first lead of the contest. Mathew Barzal pushed the puck ahead from the blue line to Pulock in the right circle. He sent a cross-ice pass to Jordan Eberle and he fired in a wrist shot from the left circle.
New York scored again on the power play at 10:29 in the third period. Josh Bailey placed a pass from the left circle to Anthony Beauvillier in the inner left circle. His one-time shot was deflected in by Eberle on the left side of the crease for his second tally of the game.
