Boca Raton At Deerfield Beach Preview

The Boca Raton Bobcats will make the five-mile trip down I-95 and challenge their District 13 rival the Deerfield Beach Bucks at Butler Stadium on Friday night in a FHSAA Class 8A regional quarterfinal game. It is a rematch from two weeks ago when the district title was on the line.
The Bucks shut out the Bobcats 40-0 that night. Both schools met in district play for the first time ever in 2019 and Deerfield Beach was victorious 49-6. They was no district play last year with the delayed regular season due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Boca Raton(8-2) finished as the South Florida Tri-County silver bracket champion in 2020. The Bobcats had won six straight games this year until they ran into Deerfield Beach. They have a 6-0 record on the road during the regular season. Their other defeat this year was to playoff-bound Palm Beach Central.
The Bobcats received great news during the offseason as running back Trey Rainey transferred back to Boca Raton after spending his junior year with the American Heritage Stallions. Rainey is expected to get the majority of carries from the backfield. Quarterback Jacob Cashion can run out of the pocket for yardage and throw the ball to wide receivers Collin Bender, Jerome Puckett, Sebastien Saint-Louis and Teddy Hoffman.
Deerfield Beach(8-2) reached the South Florida Tri-County gold bracket title game last year. They won their final five contests of the 2021 regular season and have compiled shutouts in four of their last five games. The Bucks have outscored their opponents 346-58 this year. They are undefeated at home this season with a 4-0 record. Head coach Jevon Glenn left the football program back in September.
The Bucks offense revolves around the rushing attack of running back Jaziun Patterson. He has the ability to score on any rushing attempt and did it three times against Boca Raton two weeks ago. They can go with either Luke Collins or Michael Merdinger at quarterback to call the signals. Wide receivers A.J. Jenkins and Joseph Kenneley look to make pass receptions down the field.
