Miami Palmetto Pounce On Deerfield Beach

     The Miami Palmetto Panthers topped the Deerfield Beach Bucks 27-14 at Tropical Park in a Class 8A regional semifinal on Thursday night. The Panthers will face the winner between Columbus and Western next week in a regional final. 
     Miami Palmetto(9-2) got up 7-0 with 6:14 left in the first quarter. Quarterback Kevin Smith fired a 13-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Mike Jackson on the left side of the end zone. 
     In the second quarter, the Panthers made it 14-0 at the 7:18 mark. Jackson tipped and intercepted a pass and returned it 51 yards for the score. 
     Deerfield Beach(9-3) trailed 20-0 with 1:32 left in the second. Jackson caught a 54-yard touchdown pass up the middle from Smith. 
     It became 27-0 for Miami Palmetto at 9:37 of the third quarter. They faked a field goal and tossed a five-yard pass to Jaiden Louis on the right side of the end zone. 
     The Bucks got on the scoreboard with 3:04 to go in the quarter. Smith threw a pass that was caught by an offensive lineman in their own zone for a safety. 
     Deerfield Beach added seven more points on the ensuing possession and were down 27-8 with 57.5 seconds left in the third. Quarterback Michael Merdinger connected a 24-yard touchdown pass to wide reciever Marcus Williams on the right side of the end zone. The Bucks scored another touchdown during the fourth quarter.
