It was the first time that the Dolphins ever played a game in Las Vegas. The Raiders moved to that city from Oakland prior to the start of the 2020 NFL season.
Las Vegas(7-8) took a 7-0 lead at the 8:25 mark. Quarterback Derek Carr jumped over the top of the line and scored from one yard away.
Miami(10-5) and the Raiders exchanged two field goals for the remainder of the first half. Jason Sanders had field goals from 37 and 39 yards while Daniel Carlson made field goals from 23 and 38 yards. The Fins trailed 13-6 at halftime.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw a short 10-yard touchdown pass to running back Myles Gaskin in the middle of the field to even it up 13-13 at 10:31 of the third quarter. Carlson kicked a 20-yard field goal with 2:30 to go in the quarter and reclaimed the lead 16-13.
In the fourth quarter, both teams combined for 22 points in the final four minutes of the contest. Sanders booted a 22-yard field goal at the 4:01 mark to tie it for the Dolphins 16-16.
Carr connected a long pass on the right sideline to wide receiver Nelson Agholor. He cut to the inside to the right numbers and scored on a 85-yard pass play with 3:37 left to give the a 22-16 lead. Carlson missed the extra point wide right and that later became critical.
Miami responded back with 2:55 remaining and reclaimed the lead 23-22. Backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick came in and replaced Tagovailoa. He fired a pass to Gaskin on the right hash marks and he raced down the right sideline for a 59-yard touchdown.
Las Vegas went up 25-23 when Carlson made a 22-yard field goal with 19 seconds to go. Sanders converted on a 44-yard field goal with one second left in the fourth quarter and gave them a 26-25 victory.
