Miami Palmetto At Vero Beach Preview

The Miami Palmetto Panthers visit the Vero Beach Indians at the Citrus Bowl on Friday night. It is a FHSAA Class 8A battle between both teams who were victorious last week in overtime.
Miami Palmetto(5-1) started with wins over Booker T. Washington and Homestead before falling to Miami Northwestern in their last regular season contest. The Panthers blanked Dr. Phillips 10-0 in a play-in game, got by Lake Nona 9-6 in a regional quarterfinal and slipped by Treasure Coast 22-21 in overtime during a regional semifinal. The main weapon for their offense in Brashard Smith and he can score on any play. He will be able to line up as a quarterback, running back and wide receiver on any offensive snap. Expect wide receiver Mike Jackson to make pass receptions and return kicks on special teams.
Vero Beach(8-2) will attempt to make the state semifinals, a threshold that they have trying to reach for a very long time. They won their first three contests this year and then had their state record, regular season home winning streak snapped by Treasure Coast. After the Indians knocked off Osceola in their regular season finale, they defeated Fort Pierce Central for the second straight time this season in the regional quarterfinal 40-3. They edged Boone 35-34 in overtime in the regional semifinal last week. Vero Beach has outscored their opponents 362-120 this season. Quarterback Jackson Nairn can connect passes to wide receivers Tyler Wrenn, Derek Larralde, Wendell Bethel and Ephraim Floyd. Running back Bobby McMillian will get the majority of the carries.
