Even with Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh not dressed for the game, the Miami Heat set a franchise-record with their 62nd win this season in a 103-98 victory over the Washington Wizards at Verizon Center on Wednesday night. They had 61 wins back in the 1996-97 season. The Heat clinched the home-court advantage throughout the NBA playoffs with the win.
Miami(62-16) used a shortage of players as reserve Ray Allen had a team-high 23 points along with six rebounds in 33 minutes. Rashard Lewis added 17 points in 37 minutes and Shane Battier got 15 points in 28 minutes. Mike Miller contributed 14 points with eight rebounds in 24 minutes while Mario Chalmers scored 13 points with eight assists in 30 minutes.
Washington(29-50) was led by John Wall as he compiled a double-double with 17 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds in 40 minutes. A.J. Price came off the bench and scored a team-high 23 points in 32 minutes. Martell Webster added 12 points in 26 minutes.
The Heat scored the first eight points of the game and led 25-22 after one quarter. The Wizards got a late rally in the second quarter and were up 50-46 at halftime. Washington margin was held to six points or less through the entire third quarter as they led 72-69 at the end of the period. Miami pulled off a 14-2 run at the start of the fourth quarter and were ahead 83-74 with 7:22 left.
