Marlins Fall In 13 Innings

    The Miami Marlins were unable string two straight victories together for the first time this season with a 3-2 defeat to the Cincinnati Reds in 13 inniings at Great American Ball Park on Saturday. The Fish are now 2-6 in one-run games in 2013.
    Cincinnati(10-8) got on the scoreboard during the third inning. Joey Votto hit a lead-off solo homer to right field off Wade LeBlanc on a 2-0 pitch. It was his second homer of the season.
    The Reds extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning. Devin Mesoraco started with a base hit into left-center field and advanced to second on a Bronson Arroyo infield sacrifice. Three batters later, Mesoraco scored from third on a single to right by Votto with two out.
    Miami(4-14) got back in the game as they scored two runs against Arroyo in the fifth inning to tie it at 2-2. Miguel Olivo began with a double into left field then went to third on a single by Donovan Solano to right field. Pinch-hitter Joe Mahoney knocked in Olivo with a base hit to center field. Two batters later, Solano crossed the plate on a Placido Polanco double to deep left field.
    The game was decided in the bottom of the 13th inning as the Reds got the victory. Shin Sho-Choo led off with a ground-rule double down the left-field line. He moved to third on a sacrifice fly to right field by Cesar Izturis. Steve Cishek intentionally walked Votto and Brandon Phillips followed with sacrifice fly to center as Sho-Choo scored the winning run.
    Arroyo pitched eight innings for the Red Legs, struck out six and allowed two runs on six hits. LeBlanc surrendered two runs on seven hits in four innings for the Fish. Cishek went to 1-2 as he gave up one run on two hits in 1 2/3 innings.
