Nats Bash Marlins

    The Washington Nationals came to Miami and pounded the Marlins 10-3 on Monday night at Marlins Park. Players on both teams wear uniform number 42 in honor of Jackie Robinson Day. Miami has lost eight of their last nine games.
    Washington(8-5) jumped on the Marlins with four runs in the first inning. Denard Span led off with a single to right then Jayson Werth singled to left. After Bryce Harper walked to load the bases, Ryan Zimmerman singled into center field as Span and Werth scored. Ian Desmond doubled to left field and moved Zimmerman to third. Tyler Moore got an RBI single to center with both Zimmerman and Desmond scoring.
    The Nationals picked up a two-out rally with three consecutive doubles during the third inning. Desmond doubled into center field and scored on a double to center by Moore. Stephen Lombardozzi doubled into the left-field corner as Moore crossed the plate for a 6-0 lead.
    Werth picked up a single with one out in the fourth inning for the Nats. John Maine relieved for Marlins starting pitcher Wade LeBlanc one out later. Zimmerman was the first batter Maine faced and he blasted a two-run homer on the first pitch.
    Miami(2-11) gave up two more runs in the fifth inning and were down 10-0. Lombardozzi and Kurt Suzuki both singled to center and both advanced one base when Jordan Zimmermann sacrificed. Span brought both of them home on a single into center field.
    The Marlins broke the shutout in the sixth inning. Donovan Solano was hit by a pitch with one out. Two batters later, Juan Pierre looped a double to left for Solano to score. Pierre scored on a base hit by Chris Coghlan to right field.
    The Fish added another run as they got three consecutive hits during the seventh inning. Greg Dobbs started with a doubled to right followed by a single to left-center field by Justin Ruggiano. Rob Brantly got an RBI single into right field for Dobbs to score.
    LeBlanc fell to 0-3 as he allowed seven runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innnings. Zimmermann pitched a complete game as he gave up three runs on six hits in nine innings and improved to 3-0.
