After losing twice to the Ottawa Senators during the first week of this season, the Florida Panthers won 2-1 on Sunday night at BB&T Center. The Senators had won 11 of the 12 games against the Cats prior to this game. The Panthers have won four of their last five games as they travel to Winnipeg later this week.
Ottawa(19-13-6) got a goal from rookie Cory Conacher, who they acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning last week, at 12:26 of the first period. He was to the left of the crease when he received a pass from Jakob Silfverberg.
Florida(13-20-6) tied the game at 1-1 when Marcel Goc deflected a wrist shot from the left point by Tomas Fleischmann at 1:08 of the second period. It was the fifth goal this season for Goc.
The Panthers took their first lead of the game on the power play at 10:46 of the third period. Dmitry Kulikov scored his second goal of the season as he fired a wrist shot from the top left circle.
Florida goalie Scott Clemmensen stopped 40 of 41 shots in the victory as he upped his record to 3-6-2. Ottawa goalie Craig Anderson, who entered this contest with a 9-0-1 career record against the Cats, made 15 saves and fell to 8-5-2 this season. The Panthers were outshot 41-17 in the game and scored on their one power play.
