The Florida Panthers dropped in the NHL draft lottery drawing from the number one overall spot to the number two overall spot on Monday night in Toronto. The Colorado Avalanche, who had the second worst NHL record this season, jumped over the Cats and will make the first selection of the 2013 NHL Draft on June 20 in Newark.
The Panthers entered the draft lottery with a 25 percent chance to finish with the first overall pick while the Avalanche had an 18.8 percent chance for the top pick. Florida, which finished with the worst record in the NHL for the first time, had the first overall pick once in franchise history when they selected defenseman Ed Jovanovski in the 1994 NHL Draft.
