Nats Shut Out Fish Again

For the second consecutive game, the Washington Nationals held the Miami Marlins scoreless as the Fish were shut out 3-0 at Nationals Park on Wednesday. The Marlins had four hits in this game and seven hits after two games this season.
Starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez helped his own cause for Washington(2-0) in the fifth inning with a one-out solo home run off Kevin Slowey on the first pitch for a 1-0 lead.
The Nationals added to their lead in the seventh inning as Danny Espinosa got on base on a fielding error, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Kurt Suzuki and got to third on a wild pitch by Ryan Webb. Espinosa scored when Roger Bernardina broke up a double play as he crashed into second baseman Donovan Solano while in the base path.
Miami(0-2) gave up another run in the eighth inning with A.J. Ramos on the mound. Bryce Harper led off with a double into right field and he scored on the following at-bat as Ryan Zimmerman hit a line drive for a single to center field.
Gonzalez went six innings for the win as he gave up no runs on two hits and struck out five. Slowey surrendered one run on four hits and struck out four in 5 1/3 innings.
The best chance for the Marlins to score was in the fifth inning when it was tied 0-0. Justin Ruggiano led off with a double, went to third on a double play and was stranded when Adeiny Hechavarria struck out.
