The Miami Marlins blasted the San Diego Padres 12-7 on Tuesday night at Marlins Park. It was the first contest for the Padres on their nine-game road trip.
In the first inning, Miami(35-57) ran out to a 3-0 lead. Brian Anderson smashed a three-run homer to left-center field on the first pitch. Harold Ramirez and Garrett Cooper scored in front of him on the play.
San Diego(45-49) answered back in the following inning with three runs to even it up. Ian Kinsler placed a base hit through the right side and Hunter Renfroe scored. The throw to the plate from Anderson went to the third-base dugout and Josh Naylor sprinted home. Manuel Margot followed with a ground out to short for Francisco Mejia to score.
The Marlins put up four runs in the bottom of the second to go ahead 7-3. Ramirez doubled to deep right field which brought in Cesar Puello and Yadier Rivera. Cooper came up next as he knocked in Miguel Rojas and Ramirez on a single to right.
It became a blowout for the Fish in the sixth inning. Rojas got a base hit to center field and Rivera scored. The Marlins had the bases loaded three batters later then Stalin Castro tripled toward the right-center field gap to score Rojas, Cooper and Anderson. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
The Padres closed it to 11-4 in the top of the seventh. Margot connected with a solo home run to left-center field on a 2-2 count.
Miami made it an eight-run margin in the bottom of the eighth. Cooper lifted a solo homer to left-center field on a 2-1 pitch. He now has four home runs in his last five games.
The Friars did not go quietly in the final inning. Pinch-hitter Franmil Reyes crushed a two-run homer to right-center field on a 1-1 count. Two batters later, Manny Machado drove in Eric Hosmer with a double into right field.
