The Miami Marlins continued their road trip and fell to the Chicago White Sox 9-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field on Monday night. The Fish have lost four straight games and 12 of their last 16.
In the first inning, Chicago(45-52) raced out to a 2-0 lead. Jose Abreu drove in Jon Jay with a double to deep left field. Yoan Moncada followed with a base hit to right field which brought in Abreu.
Miami(36-62) quickly answered in the top of the second. Jorge Alfaro connected on a solo home run to right-center field on a 2-1 count.
The White Sox extended it to 4-1 in the third inning. After taking a strike on the first pitch, Abreu cracked a two-run homer to center field with Jay aboard.
The Pale Hoses piled on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Moncada blasted a three-run homer to straight-away center field on a 1-0 pitch for his 18th home run of the season. Leury Garcia and Abreu scored in front of him on the play.
It continued to be a power attack for the Southsiders in the following frame. James McCann and Ryan Goins both had back-to-back solo homers to right field for an eight-run margin.
