The Washington Nationals held off the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Tuesday night at Nationals Park. The Nats have 12 of their last 16 contests and are 24-10 in their last 34 games.
Both clubs scored in the first inning. Miami(32-51) got up 1-0 when Garrett Cooper singled to shallow left field which scored Miguel Rojas.
Washington(43-41) overtook them in the bottom of the frame. Juan Soto smacked a two-run homer to right-center field on a 0-1 pitch. Park Vista High School grad Trea Turner crossed the plate before him on the play. There was a one-hour rain delay during the third inning.
In the top of the eighth, the Marlins evened it up 2-2. Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to left field and Cesar Puello scored.
The Nationals pulled off a walk-off victory in the ninth inning. Turner lined a double into the right-center field gap for Yan Gomes to score from first with two out.
