The Florida Panthers have signed goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to a seven-year, $70 million deal. He will fill the spot that the recently retired Roberto Luongo along with James Reimer had over the last couple of seasons.
Bobrovsky played the last seven seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets and helped them into the Stanley Cup Playoffs over the previous three seasons and four of the last five years. His best season with Columbus was in 2016-17 when he went 41-17-5 and led the National Hockey League with a 2.06 goals-against-average and a .931 save percentage. Bobrovsky had a 37-24-1 record, a career-high nine shutouts last season and guided the team to their first playoff series win in franchise history over the Presidents Cup champions the Tampa Bay Lightning.
He was never drafted and was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers in 2010. Bobrovsky was with the team for two seasons and then was traded to the Blue Jackets on June 22, 2012 for three draft picks.
Bobrovsky has a 255-153-37 record with a 2.46 goals-against-average, .919 save percentage and 33 shutouts in his NHL career. He was the recipient of the Vezina Trophy on two occasions in 2012-13 and 2016-17.
