Former Miami Dolphins middle linebacker Nick Buoniconti passed away on Tuesday at the age of 78. Buoniconti played six seasons with the Dolphins and seven seasons with the Boston Patriots prior to that. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.
Buoniconti led the No-Name Defense to two consecutive Super Bowl titles and three consecutive AFC championships during the early 1970s. He was part of the Dolphins that became the only team in National Football League history to go undefeated and untied throughout a season with a perfect 17-0 record. This accomplishment still remains unmatched 45 years later.
He had more of an impact after his playing days. Buoniconti co-founded and became the face of the Miami Project To Cure Paralysis after his son Marc was injured on a football field which rendered him as a quadriplegic. He also got into broadcasting and co-hosted with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Len Dawson the weekly football show Inside The NFL on HBO from 1977 until 2001.
