The Miami Marlins returned to South Florida following the All-Star Game break with an 8-4 victory over the New York Mets at Marlins Park on Friday night. Both clubs have the two worst records in the National League. The Marlins have won two of their last seven contests.
The Mets scooted out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. Wilson Ramos singled into left-center field which brought in Jeff McNeil and J.D. Davis.
Miami(34-55) struck back in the bottom of the third with four runs. Miguel Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Jorge Alfaro scored. Curtis Granderson then homered over the right-center field fence on a 3-2 pitch with Caleb Smith scoring in front of him. Garrett Cooper capped the frame with a solo home run to right on a 1-1 count.
In the sixth inning, the Marlins expanded their lead to 7-2. Cooper knocked in Granderson with a double into deep center field. Brian Anderson came up next and pounded a two-run homer to right on a 0-1 pitch. Starlin Castro made it 8-2 during the bottom of the eighth when he tripled to deep right field and Anderson crossed the plate.
New York(40-51) added two runs in the ninth inning. Todd Frazier connected with a two-run home run to center on a 2-1 count and Robinson Cano also scored.
