Flyers Trade Claude Giroux To Panthers

The Florida Panthers have acquired center Claude Giroux, forward Connor Bunnaman, forward German Rubttsov and a 2024 fifth-round pick from the Philadelphia Flyers for right wing Owen Tippett, a 2024 conditional first-round pick and a 2023 third-round selection. The Flyers will retain 50 percent of his salary for the rest of the 2021-22 season.
Giroux was with Philadelphia for his entire 15-season National Hockey League career and had the longest reign as Flyers team captain in franchise history. He has compiled 291 goals and 609 assists for 900 points. Giroux played in his 1,000th NHL regular season game on Thursday night in a home contest against the Nashville Predators. He has compiled 18 goals and 24 assists in 57 games with Philadelphia during 2021-22.
He helped the club overcome a 3-0 series lead against the Boston Bruins in the first round of the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It was just the third time it happened in NHL history. Philadelphia eventually became Eastern Conference champions that year and lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Final.
Tippett was drafted by the Panthers 10th overall during the 2017 NHL Draft. He played parts of three seasons with Florida. Tippett had six goals and eight assists in 42 contests this season with the Cats. He finished overall with 14 goals and 19 assists in 94 games with the Panthers
