Berkeley Prep Upsets Miami Norland For 2M Title

     The Miami Norland lost to the Berkeley Prep Buccaneers 28-20 in the FHSAA Class 2M state championship contest on Saturday at Bragg Memorial Field. The Buccaneers captured their first state championship in school history. The Vikings attempted to win their third state in school history and their first since 2011. 
     There was no scoring by both teams in the opening quarter. Berkeley Prep(13-2) had a 7-0 lead at the 10:05 mark of the second quarter. Quarterback Cooper Hayes threw a 26-yard screen pass in the middle to wide receiver Dallas Golden.  
     Miami Norland(14-1) tied it up 7-7 at 6:46 of the quarter. Quarterback Ennio Yapoor connected a 29-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Ivory Aikens on the right sideline. 
     The Buccaneers recovered a fumble deep in Vikings territory. They took a 14-7 lead with 3:10 remaining in the second on the first play of the drive. Golden went around the left end and scored from 13 yards away.
     In the third quarter, Berkeley Prep increased their lead to 21-7 with 1:10 to go. Hayes found running back Joseph Troupe in the middle of the end zone on a seven-yard touchdown pass. 
     The Vikings cut the deficit to 21-13 with no time remaining in the third. Yapoor ran through the right side of the line from four yards out. 
     It became 28-13 for the Buccaneers at the 5:37 mark of the fourth quarter. Hayes sneaked up the middle of the line from one yard away. 
     Miami Norland made it 28-20 with 4:30 left in the fourth. Running back Juan Rodriguez caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Yapoor on a screen play to the right side.
