The Columbus Explorers knocked off the Plant Panthers 27-7 on Friday night in a FHSAA Class 4M state semifinal. The Explorers, who captured the FHSAA Class 8A state title in 2019, will attempt to capture their second state championship in school history next week in Tallahassee.
Columbus(12-2) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. The Explorers added 13 points during the second quarter and had a 20-0 halftime lead. Plant(11-3) gave up another touchdown in the first minute of the third quarter and were down 27-0. The Panthers broke the shutout in the opening minute of the fourth and trailed 27-7.
