Blues Surprise Panthers

The St. Louis Blues beat the Florida Panthers 4-1 on Thursday night at Amerant Bank Arena. The Panthers are coming off a five-game road trip. It was a rare three-day break for the club.
After a scoreless first period, St. Louis(16-15-1) made it 1-0 at the 4:50 mark of the second. Robert Thomas centered the puck from behind the cage and Jordan Kyrou placed in his seventh goal this season on a one-time slap shot from the low left circle. Pavel Buchnevich started the play with a forehand shot wide right of the net.
The Blues expanded it to 2-0 at 7:46. Thomas angled a pass from the high slot. Kyrou sent a cross-ice pass from the low right circle and Buchnevich backhanded a shot from the low slot past Sergei Bobrovsky for his 11th goal of the campaign.
Florida(18-12-2) closed it to 2-1 with 6:13 to go in the second on a strange goal. Eetu Luostanien smacked the puck from the red line that was intended to go around the end wall. It caromed off the plexiglass near the Panthers bench and bounced into the Blues wipe-opoen net for Luostarinen"s fifth tally of the season.
St. Louis struck back with 3:17 left in the period for a 3-1 advantage. Brandon Saad sailed the puck from the end wall. Marco Scandella released a wrist shot from the left point and Alexey Toropchenko deflected it in from the left of the crease for his sixth goal in 2023-24.
The Panthers pulled their goalie for an extra skater with 3:39 remaining in the third. Buchenevich lifted the puck from his own blue line into an empty net just 30 seconds later for a three-goal margin.
