The Panthers are in the middle of a stretch with four home games in five contests. The Rangers entered the game with the best record in the National Hockey League.
Florida(21-12-2) scooted out to a 2-0 lead. Evan Rodrigues put in a wrist shot with 1:15 remaining in the first period. Sam Reinhart made it a two-goal margin with a wrist shot at the 7:12 mark of the second period.
New York(24-9-1) came back to tie it up 2-2 with two goals in a 1:13 span. Artemi Panarin scored his 20th goal of the season on a snap shot at 13:23 of the second and Will Cuylle added a tally at 14:36 with a wrist shot.
The Panthers regained the lead 3-2 on the power play with 2:03 left in the second. Barkov took a shot from the top of the zone and it was tipped in by Reinhart past Jonathan Quick from the top of the crease for his second goal of the contest and 23rd goal this season.
In the third period, the Rangers picked up a shorthanded goal with 7:45 left to even it up 3-3. Chris Kreider fed a cross-ice pass from the top right circle and Mika Zibanejad blasted a one-time slap shot from the left circle by Sergei Bobrovsky for his 14th goal of the campaign.
The Cats answered back with 6:23 to go in the third for a 4-3 lead. Carter Verhaeghe placed in a wrist shot from the high slot for his 17th goal this year.
