Rutgers Shocks Miami

The University of Miami Hurricanes were stunned by the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights 31-24 in the Bad Boy Mowers Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Thursday. The game marked the 65th anniversary of the Greatest Game Ever Played between the New York Giants and the Baltimore Colts for the 1958 NFL Championship at the venue.
The Hurricanes appeared in Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2018 and the second time in the school's history. It was the first meeting between Miami and Rutgers since they competed in the Big East Conference back in 2003. The Canes had won all 11 contests between both schools until today.
Rutgers(7-6) had a 7-0 lead with 6:54 remaining in the first quarter. Quarterback Gavin Wimsatt plowed up the middle from one yard away.
In the second quarter, the Scarlet Knights expanded their lead to 14-0 at the 7:37 mark. Running back Kyle Monangai went around the right end from seven yards out.
Miami(7-6) scored with 3:19 left in the second and they trailed 14-7. Quarterback Jacurri Brown rambled to the left side and slid into the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown.
The Hurricanes cut it to 14-10 with no time remaining in the first half. Andres Borregales was able to kick a 35-yard field goal.
The Canes got their first lead of the game 17-14 at 10:33 of the third quarter. Wide receiver Xavier Restrepo caught a 30-yard touchdown pass on the right side of the end zone from Brown.
The Scarlet Knights reclaimed the lead 21-17 with 5:06 to go in the third. Trevor Yeboah-Kodie blocked a punt and it was recovered by Timmy Ward in the end zone.
Rutgers moved it to 28-17 at the 11:51 mark of the fourth quarter. Brown sneaked the ball in from one year out for his second touchdown of the contest. Jai Patel added a 35-yard field goal with 2:35 left in the fourth for a 31-17 advantage.
Miami reached the end zone again with 27 seconds remaining and they were down 31-24. Brown busted up the middle on a one-yard touchdown run.
