Boyd Anderson At Dwyer Preview

The Dwyer Panthers will host the Boyd Anderson Cobras in a Class 7A regional quarterfinal at Blum Stadium in Palm Beach Gardens on Friday night. This is a rematch from last year when they met each other as district runner-ups in the regional semifinals at the same venue. The Cobras upended the Panthers 6-3 in that game.
Dwyer(10-0) enters this game undefeated as they rolled through every team to win the District 13-7A championship. The Panthers won the title two weeks ago as they beat West Boca Raton 41-17 in their closest margin of victory this year. They have outscored their opponents 437-60 in the regular season and won all their games by at least 24 points.
Quarterback Daniel Parr, who is first with 29 touchdown passes and third with 1,679 passing yards in Palm Beach County, will dictate the pace on offense for the Panthers. Running back Alonso Smith, currently third in Palm Beach County with 865 rushing yards, is expected to get the bulk of the carries along with Gerald Hearns. Parr has a slew of wide receivers that can produce at anytime which includes Johnnie Dixon, Ezra Saffold and Clint Stephens. They have a special teams threat in Shawun Lurry who has scored on several kickoff and punt returns.
Boyd Anderson(2-8) slipped into the FHSAA playoffs as the District 14-7A runner-up with their only victories this season over district opponents Northeast and Fort Lauderdale. They began the regular season with five consecutive losses and enter this contest on two straight defeats.
The Cobras lost many impact players to graduation last year such as Gregory Hankerson and Eddie Jackson and it has been a struggle for them in 2013. Their squad will put emphasis in the passing game with the running game being a secondary option. Quarterback Nathaniel Watson looks to connect with wide receivers Osner Valmeus and Rodney Simeon with short passes. Running back Tevin Hyatt will get some rushing attempts from the backfield.
