The New York Rangers defeated the Florida Panthers 4-3 on Sunday night at Madison Square Garden. The Panthers lost all three games on their recent road trip and are winless in the past nine games.
They have won two games in their last 17 games prior to their lone home game against the Anaheim Ducks this Tuesday night. It will be the final appearance of right wing Teemu Selanne who plans to retire after this season.
J.T. Miller got New York(9-8-0) on the scoreboard at 9:49 of the first period. Aleksander Barkov evened the game for Florida(3-11-4) on a power-play goal with 27 seconds in the first.
Brian Campbell gave the Cats their only lead of the contest at 11:20 of the second period with his first goal of the season. Derek Dorsett tied the game less than three minutes later for the Blueshirts.
The Rangers retook the lead 3-2 just 46 seconds into the third period when Brad Richards scored. Mats Zuccarello extended the lead for New York at 6:16 on the power play. Campbell scored his second goal of the game with 7:03 remaining and closed the margin to 4-3.
Tim Thomas fell to 2-5-0 as he stopped 25 shots while Hedrik Lundqvist upped his record to 6-6-0 as he made 24 saves. Both teams went 1-for-3 on the power play.
