Head coach Kevin Dineen along with assistant coaches Craig Ramsay and Gord Murphy have been let go by the Florida Panthers. Dineen was 16 games into his third season as the head coach for the Cats. He led the team in 2011-12 to their first division title in franchise history and ended the longest playoff drought in NHL history as the Panthers went to the postseason for the first time in 12 years.
Ramsay and Murphy were both hired as assistant coached prior to the 2011-12 season and had previous ties to the club. Ramsay was an assistant coach with the team from their inaugural season in 1993-94 until 1994-95. Murphy joined the Panthers as a defenseman in 1993-94 and played there until 1998-99. He was part of the organization when they won the Eastern Conference title in 1995-96.
Peter Horachek has been named the Panthers interim head coach. He was promoted from the Panthers AHL club in San Antonio where he was the head coach. Horachek was previously the assistant coach and associate coach with the Nashville Predators.
Former Florida players Brian Skrudland and John Madden have been named assistant coaches and will work with Horachek. Skrudland was the first captain in Florida Panthers history and played for the club in their first four seasons. Madden played one season with Florida in 2011-12.
