The Deerfield Beach Bucks host the Flanagan Falcons at Butler Stadium on Friday night in a Class 8A regional quarterfinal. It is a matchup with the Bucks who has constantly appeared in the FHSAA playoffs over the past decade against the Falcons who has been in a tough district with Miramar and Cypress Bay over the past four years.
Deerfield Beach(10-0) completed an undefeated season and won the District 11-8A title. The Bucks capped the campaign with a 22-7 home victory over St. Thomas Aquinas last week, their first win against them since 2007. This may possibly be their strongest squad since 2007 when Denard Robinson led them to the Class 6A state semifinals and lost to the Northwestern Bulls at the Orange Bowl.
The Bucks bring a tremendous talented backfield which has running backs Brandon Powell, Aaron McNeal and Alex Pierre being involved. All three players are able to advance the ball beyond the line of scrimmage. Danarious Graham can scramble around the pocket and find open wide receivers Justin Morgan and Jamal Patterson with a long pass.
Flanagan(9-1) finished as the District 12-8A runner-up with their only loss during the regular season to district foe Miramar. They won their first seven games of the season. The Falcons are led by quarterback Ryan Stanley who will hand the ball off to running back Christopher Nealy and pass the ball to wide receivers Emonee Spence and Devin Gil.
