The Florida Panthers fell to the Boston Bruins 4-1 on Thursday night at TD Garden. This was the first game of a three-game road string for the Cats. The Panthers extended their losing streak to seven games(0-3-4) and have won two of their last 15 games.
Boston(9-5-1) took the lead during the second period at 7:17. David Krejci did a back-and-forth pass with Zdeno Chara at the Panthers blue line until he blasted a slapshot by goalie Scott Clemmensen for a 1-0 lead.
The B's increased their lead to 2-0 at 4:09 of the third period as Brad Marchand put in a rebound on a wrist shot in the crease following a Loui Eriksson shot on net. They made it a three-goal gap at 8:57 when Chris Kelly sent a cross-ice pass from the right corner to a trailing Torey Krug in the slot area and he put in a wrist shot.
Florida(3-9-4) broke the shutout with 5:35 left in regulation. Jonathan Huberdeau made a pass to Nick Bjugstad in the left circle and he fired a shot off the mask of goalie Tuukka Rask. Jesse Winchester then backhanded the puck in for his fourth goal of the season.
Reilly Smith wrapped the game up with 1:47 left when he intercepted a clearing pass in the slot area and ripped a wrist shot into the net. It was his second goal this season with both of them against the Panthers. He scored the game-winning goal during the final minute of regulation in Sunrise back on October 17.
Clemmensen dropped his record to 0-1-1 as he stopped 26 of 30 shots. Rask improved his career record to 8-0-0 against the Cats and to 8-4-1 this season as he made 23 saves. Both teams were scoreless on the power play as the Cats were 0-for-4 while the B's were 0-for-1.
