The Boynton Beach Tigers make a long trip to Miami and take on the Central Rockets in a Class 6A regional quarterfinal on Friday night at Traz Powell Stadium. Both teams come in with the same identical record during the regular season.
Boynton Beach(9-1) had their best regular season ever in 2013. They came very close to an undefeated season, however they fell on the road to district opponent Dillard 41-14 and finished as the District 15-6A runner-up. The Tigers won their first six games this season and ride into this game with a three-game winning streak.
Lamar Jackson will have a major impact on the Tigers offense as quarterback. He can either run out of the pocket or throw the ball on any occasion. Running back Curtis Rolle will be their other option in the backfield to rush with the ball while wide receiver Donte Sylenceux can bring in receptions down the field.
Miami Central(9-1), who are the defending Class 6A state champions, entered the regular season as the top-rated team in the United States, Florida and Dade County. The Rockets were stopped by another Dade County powerhouse Booker T. Washington 28-17 in their second game. They have won eight consecutive games since that stunning defeat and captured the District 16-6A title. All their nine victories this season have been won by at least 17 points. Central will have the opportunity to host their first three FHSAA playoff games based on the bracket being skewed to the south this year.
The Rockets may have the most dominant running back tandem in the nation. Joseph Yearby and Dalvin Cook both have power and speed plus they can break through the line of scrimmage and score on any rushing attempt. Wide receiver Da'vante Phillips will be the deep threat for passes from quarterback Keith Reed.
