The Florida Panthers played their first game since they traded away Kris Versteeg and lost to the Minnesota Wild 3-2 on Friday night at Xcel Energy Center. Nick Bjudstad played in his first NHL game in his home state where he grew up and went to the University of Minnesota.
Minnesota(12-4-4) got the quick breakout with two goals in the first period to take the lead. Zach Parise scored on the power play at 4:59 followed by an even-strength goal by a Panther killer Jason Pominville at 13:38.
Florida(4-12-4), who have lost 10 of their last 11 games, climbed out of the deficit as they scored two goals to tie the game in the third period. Tomas Kopecky put in his first tally this season at 3:31 and Jonathan Huberdeau struck with his fourth goal this year at 8:59.
The Wild regained the lead with 9:22 remaining in the third when Charlie Coyle broke the 2-2 tie and got the game-winning goal.
Tim Thomas dropped his record to 3-6-0 this season as he made 17 saves. Josh Harding moved to 11-2-2 as he stopped 22 shots.
