The Plantation Colonels and the St. Thomas Aquinas will face each other for the fourth time in two seasons on Friday night. This time the two District 15-7A foes will play in the regional semifinals at Brian Piccolo Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. The winner of this game will go on the road and play the Blanche Ely-Dwyer winner in the Section 4 regional final next week.
The Raiders has won the last three meetings over the last two years. They met earlier this year in Plantation at PAL Field where the Colonels fell 16-6. Aquinas swept them at home last year with a 24-20 win during the regular season and a 38-7 victory in the 2012 regional semifinals.
Plantation(8-2) have two defeats this season among two top Broward County teams in Miramar and St. Thomas Aquinas. They traveled to Miami last week and beat the American Patriots 26-15 in the regional quarterfinals for the second year in a row.
Quarterback Chris Lammons will lead the Colonels on offense. He was injured in the second half during their close game with the Raiders on November 1. They have two running backs with Antwuan Haynes and Clint Sills Jr. who will get their share of carries from the backfield. Targets for Lammons to throw to includes wide receivers Jewison Dawkins, Kendan Davis and Ravion Pierce.
St. Thomas Aquinas(9-2) lost twice to two eventual Class 8A district champions in Broward County this regular season against Miramar and Deerfield Beach. The defending FHSAA Class 7A state champions routed Miami Springs 56-0 in a regional quarterfinal.
Running backs Madre London is expected to get a load of carries for the Raiders in order to set up the passing game. Look also for Deltron Sands and Johnnie Gaines to carry the ball. Quarterback Wade Freebeck has many options downfield to pass to which includes wide receivers Devante Peete, Jawuan Harris, Corey Holmes and Sean Bender.
