The Palm Beach Central Broncos play at home against the Palm Beach Gardens Gators on Friday night in a Class 8A regional semifinal. Both teams met each other two weeks ago in the final game of the regular season and the Broncos were victorious 20-13. The winner of this matchup will travel to Broward County next week and play the winner of the Deerfield Beach-Miramar game in a Section 3 regional final.
Palm Beach Central(8-3) are currently on a seven-game winning streak after they began the regular season losing two of their first three games. They won at home last week with a 35-20 victory over Seminole Ridge in a regional quarterfinal last week.
Running back Tommy McDonald is the focal point of the Broncos offense. He is the leading rusher in Palm Beach County and can break away from defenders should he get by the line of scrimmage. Langston Canady will also get his handful of carries from the backfield. The team can use two different quarterbacks depending on the situation with Kemar Downer and Kevin Bramhall.
Palm Beach Gardens(7-4) has a record of 2-2 in their last four games after they had won four consecutive wins. They barely beat Park Vista 34-31 last week at home in a regional quarterfinal.
The Gators will be led by quarterback J.P. Caruso who can pass the ball along with running with it if necessary. Tommy Monday is one of the top running backs in Palm Beach County and he is expected to make a lot of rushing attempts in this game. Caruso will look to connect with wide receivers Caleb Perez, Mario Brown and Andrew Prince for completions.
