The Miami Central Rockets look to continue their path for a third state title in the last four years as they host Heritage Panthers at Traz Powell Stadium in a Class 6A regional final on Saturday night. The Rockets will be at home for their third consecutive game while Heritage has to make a long road trip of 160 miles down I-95 from Palm Bay to Miami.
With the exception of a second week loss to Booker T. Washington, Miami Central(11-1) have rolled through opponents this season. The Rockets, defending FHSAA Class 6A champions, enter this game on a ten-game winning streak and all their margin of victories this year have been by at least 17 points. They took Boynton Beach 55-37 in a regional quarterfinal and bashed Dillard 59-14 in a regional semifinal.
The first thing that gets your attention is the talented backfield that the Rockets have. Running backs Joseph Yearby and Dalvin Cook definitely impact a game any time they get their hands on the football. The secondary option for them is their passing game. Quaterback Keith Reed can swing screen passes to his running backs and look for wide receiver Da'vante Phillips on route patterns.
Heritage(12-0) has cruised by during the 2013 playoffs as they hosted two games. They walloped Estero 49-3 in a regional quarterfinal and edged Naples 27-19 in a regional semifinal. The Panthers have compiled six shutouts this year and outscored their opponents 497-89. They have scored at least 27 points in all of their games this season and allowed more than 23 points only once.
The Panthers look to attack with their running game as they will use the option on offense. Quarterback Clinton Moxam can keep the ball or give it off to running back Josh Gaines. Wide receiver Terrance Spivey is the main target for receptions from Moxam.
