The Booker T. Washington Tornadoes look to stay undefeated as they host the Cocoa Tigers in a Class 4A state semifinal on Friday night at Traz Powell Stadium. It is a rematch from last year when the Tornadoes won 41-13. The winner will advance to the Class 4A state championship game in Orlando next week.
Cocoa(11-1) has consistently been a state champion contender and it has shown as they have appeared in the last seven state semifinals. They have won 11 consecutive games following a loss on opening week to Gonzaga in College Park, Maryland. They wiped out LaBelle with a 70-0 shutout in a regional semifinal and took the Clewiston Tigers 49-35 in a regional final.
The Tigers seem to be deep in the running back position with Jamel Dean, Lorenzo Pratt and Chauncey Gardner. It has been a battle for the quarterback spot throughout the season between Zack Armour and Kevin Troutman. Both are capable of dictating the pace for the Cocoa offense.
Booker T. Washington(12-0) are the defending FHSAA Class 4A state champions and won every game this season by at least 11 points. They have scored at least 40 points in their last five games and outscored their opponents 229-56 during that time span. They blasted Glades Central 40-18 in the regional semifinal and got a road victory over University School 45-18 in the regional final.
The Tornadoes can attack their opponent in many different ways on offense. Quarterback Treon Harris is expected to execute plays out of the option along with running backs Mark Walton and Krondis Larry to carry the ball from the backfield. Wide receivers Deltron Hopkins and Lamar Parker have the speed to catch long receptions.
