The Dillard Panthers go on the road and take on the Miami Central Rockets in a Class 6A regional semifinal at Traz Powell Stadium on Friday night. The Rockets are looking to win their third state title in the last four years. The winner of this game will host the Section 4 regional final next week against the Heritage-Naples winner.
Dillard(8-3) won their regional quarterfinal at home against the Carol City Chiefs 28-19 last week. The Panthers bounced back after they routed in their season finale by Blanche Ely 50-0 at the Soul Bowl. They have won eight of their last nine games.
Bud Martin calls the signals at quarterback for the team and usually stays in the pocket. He will look at wide receivers Dennis Turner and Elijah Johnson for receptions. Running backs Eddie Roberts IV is expected to be the primary ball carrier for the offense.
Miami Central(10-1), the defending FHSAA Class 6A champions, have won every game this season by at least 17 points. Since their second week loss to Booker T. Washington, the Rockets have won nine straight games. They cruised by Boynton Beach 55-37 last week in a regional quarterfinal.
The team has the dangerous backfield of running backs Joseph Yearby and Dalvin Cook who can make an impact on any play. Look for quarterback Keith Reed to find wide receiver Da'vante Phillips down the field on passes.
