Former Florida Panthers television voice Dave Strader passed away on Sunday at the age of 62. He recently called Dallas Stars hockey games on Fox Sports Southwest.
Strader was the Florida Panthers television play-by-play announcer on Fox Sports Florida from 2004-05 until 2006-07. He was the second person to hold that post and replaced Jeff Rimer. He left to announce games for the Phoenix Coyotes and was replaced by Steve Goldstein.
He started announcing professional hockey with the Adirondack Red Wings of the American Hockey League during the 1980s and was later promoted in the organization to television voice of the Detroit Red Wings.
Strader was named the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award winner for broadcasting by the Hockey Hall of Fame this past April and is to be rewarded in November. He did announce hockey games nationally on ESPN, ABC, Versus and NBC Sports Network from 1996 to 2015.
