The Somerset Canyons Cougars downed the Scheck Hillel Lions 37-0 on Tuesday in Boynton Beach. It was the final game of the regular season for the Cougars.
Somerset Canyons(3-4) fumbled the ball away at the Lions five-yard line on their first possession. Three plays later, Scheck Hillel(0-5) quarterback Daniel Strimber threw a pass from his end zone and he was called for international grounding for a Cougars safety at 5:30 of the first quarter.
The Cougars scored on their next possession with three second left in the first. Running back Bradely Lonergan raced through the right side for a 15-yard touchdown run and a 9-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the Lions blocked a punt deep in Cougars territory and took over at the five-yard line. They were unable to punch it in for a score and lost the ball on downs. It would be the best scoring chance for them in the first half.
Somerset Canyons took over and extended their margin to 16 points on their next drive at the 6:05 mark. Running back Bryce McDaniel rambled down the right sideline on a 72-yard run to the Lions 10-yard line. He scored on the following play when he ran up the middle and stretched the ball barely across the goal line.
Scheck Hillel would fall further behind later in the quarter. Lonergan ran the ball around the right end into the end zone from 35 yards away with 2:40 remaining in the first half. The Cougars made it 30-0 with under 25 seconds to go when quarterback Connor Hone connected a 65-yard touchdown pass down the right seam to wide receiver Bryan Antoine.
