The Miami Marlins played their final game of the season and fell to the Atlanta Braves 8-5 at Marlins Park on Sunday. Giancarlo Stanton finished the season with 59 home runs and became the first Marlins player to ever lead the National League with the most runs batted in for a season as he compiled 132.
Dee Gordon won the Major League Baseball stolen base title for the second time in three seasons as he had 60. Ichiro Suzuki fell one hit short of the all-time record for pinch hits in one season with 27.
Atlanta(72-90) compiled three runs during the third inning. Kurt Suzuki nailed a two-run homer on a 2-1 count to left field with Ozzie Albies scoring in front of him. Freddie Freeman scored on a ground out by Nick Markakis to short.
Miami(77-85) rallied back with four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Stanton grounded a ball up the middle for a base hit into center and Tyler Moore scored. Marcell Ozuna followed with a fielder's choice to second for Gordon to score.
Ozuna would tie the game 3-3 when Dansby Swanson made a throwing error toward second and the ball wound up down the right-field line. Yelich then scored the go-ahead run to make it 4-3 when J.T. Realmuto grounded out to short.
The Braves responded and evened it up 4-4 in the sixth. Albies grounded out to second and Swanson crossed the plate.
Both clubs hit the scoreboard in the seventh inning. Swanson singled to center field which brought in Markakis. The Bravos made it 8-4 on a three-run home run by Adonis Garcia to center field on a 2-1 pitch.
Ozuna helped the Fish in the bottom of the frame with a solo homer to center field on a 1-2 count. He picked up his 124th RBI of the season and ended up third in the National League with runs batted in.
